Cultura 0 is a placemaking project developed in collaboration with the NGO Reinventa to design a recycling center on Calle 18 in Santa Ana. Our process began with a comprehensive analysis of the area and the site’s properties, supplemented by strategic meetings with key stakeholders, including Recimetal, to gain a deeper understanding of waste management. This research allowed us to identify best practices at other recycling centers across the country and adapt them to the local context. The final proposal integrates the functional design of the collection center—optimizing reception, sorting, and storage processes—with a neighborhood park surrounding it, transforming a service infrastructure into an active public space. The project also includes an educational component with areas dedicated to workshops and community outreach on sustainable practices, demonstrating how waste management can be integrated into the urban fabric as an opportunity for social cohesion.
