This project was carried out during the pandemic with the primary goal of providing a functional structure for a previously nonexistent bus stop in Santa Ana. Through collaborative workshops with government officials, artists, architects, and the local community, we identified opportunities to improve vehicular and pedestrian mobility in the project area
As a result of this process, the pedestrian area was expanded and part of the street was redesigned, allowing the bus to maneuver without hitting an existing pipe. In addition, art was incorporated as a key element of the project, strengthening the sense of community ownership.
The project included community-led construction and painting days that transformed the public space into a safer and more functional environment, demonstrating how cross-sector collaboration can improve urban mobility even in challenging circumstances such as a pandemic.
